OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY: Administrative, Exempt (3 years, temporary)

JOB TITLE: Workforce Youth Success Advisor

OBJECTIVE: Under general supervision, the Workforce Youth Success Advisor will implement strategies to increase post-secondary education and training enrollment, retention, and completion rates for identified students from designated rural high schools by employing a case-management style to intrusive advising. The Workforce Youth Success Advisor will provide a holistic approach to college and career advising through regular, sustained contact with assigned students. The Workforce Youth Success Advisor will motivate and encourage eligible students, provide technical support, track their progress toward post-secondary education and training completion, and connect them with regional work-based learning opportunities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
  1. Reports to: Youth Career & Education Manager

2. Directs: N/A

3. Other: Works closely with the assigned School District(s), other Workforce Youth Success Advisors, Workforce Career and Education Outreach Specialists, Youth Career & Education Manager, Student HireAbility Navigator, and other Board and workforce staff, as appropriate.

4. Other: Eligible for telecommuting

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Workforce Youth Success Advisor is a very responsible position with independent decision-making authority. The Youth Success will work at assigned school districts in Coleman and Brown counties.
  • Develop case-management strategies to ensure and increase student enrollment, persistence, and completion of post-secondary education and training programs including industry-based certifications, two and four-year college programs, and the military.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with identified students.
  • Coordinate with Student HireAbility Navigator to provide career services to students with barriers.
  • Work closely with high school counselors to identify eligible students and gather appropriate data to inform the advising and support of these students.
  • Comply with partner high school policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities and duties, as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
  • Monitor and document the progress of identified students.
  • Introduce students and parents to career assessments, tools and resources
  • Participate in district events, such as Open House or Parent Nights
  • Assist students in finding and completing applications for all forms of financial aid.
  • Provide ongoing services to students and their families throughout post-secondary education and training to ensure completion

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and two years previous work experience in case-management, advising or relevant experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, working relationships with youth.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with secondary and post-secondary education and training providers, local employers and youth.
  • Skilled and effective communicator with a demonstrated ability to work with youth populations
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents/guardians, and community partners.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Knowledge of how to use case management software, Microsoft Office suite, and Zoom (or a similar video-conferencing tools)

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Professional experience in personal and/or career counseling
  • Experience working within a post-secondary or higher education setting
  • Outgoing and engaging personality

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid Texas motor vehicle operators license or available alternate means of transportation.
  • Travel is required within region and limited overnight travel may be required to attend regional, state, or national conferences, workshops, meetings, or trainings.
